The Vilna Gaon teaches that Sukkot is a commemoration of Hashem’s forgiveness of Bnei Yisroel following the sin of the golden calf.
Hashem removed the miraculous “clouds of glory” after the sin of the golden calf leaving the nation exposed and vulnerable. Following Hashem proclaiming His forgiveness on Yom Kippur, Hashem commanded Bnei Yisroel to donate materials and construct the Mishkan. After three days of donations, the materials were brought on the 14th of Tishrei to Betzalel who would build the Mishkan. When work began on the 15th of Tishrei, Hashem reinstated the “clouds of glory” symbolising His complete forgiveness of Bnei Yisroel.
We therefore celebrate Sukkot at this time to commemorate the return of the “clouds of glory.”
As a result, it has also become customary specifically before Sukkot to distribute charity to the poor.
Inspired by the theme of tzedakah that resonates throughout the festival, B&H Sukkot has partnered with a number of charities to offer a unique opportunity for the community to donate a set of Arba'as HaMinim or money to assist those in-need this Yom Tov.
100% of the proceeds from your donation will be given to the charity of your choice.
